The Prayer of Jabez… “Keep me from harm”. As a result of God's blessings, Jabez prayed that he would not fall into temptations such as pride, resulted from riches and success. Pride is the sin that comes before the fall (Prov 16:18)... Jabez also implicitly asked God to keep him from evil people who may try to harm him out of envy. Pride and envy are pretty bad and are at the top of all sins.
Under the influence of evil spirits and/or temptations, a person may hurt others and/or themselves. Think about what a drug addict may do to get their hands on drugs. We find Jabez’s prayer in the Lord's Prayer: "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” (Matthew 6:13).
Psalm 81:12 – So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own desires. This is God’s warning for people with hardened hearts, who keep rejecting God. God may leave them to their own desires and the eventual outcome is eternal damnation.
Let’s pray. “Aba Father, I love you and trust you. You love me and dwell in me so that we can be One, and I will know you like you know me. I know that your grace is sufficient for me, so I will submit to your will. While I wish to carry out your will, you want to bless me and you want me to realize my dreams. That is the mysteriously wonderful One-ness that you want me to share with you. Please keep me from temptations, deliver me from harms and evil people. In Jesus’ name, I pray like Jabez. Amen”.
